About the Book Club

IWAP Book Club is for native or advanced English speakers who love to read and discuss books.

Each month we try to select a novel of an author who is invited to speak at the "Pittsburgh Arts and Lectures Evenings Series". This allows IWAP book club members who choose to attend the lectures, not only the unique opportunity to hear the author's point of view on a more personal level but, also offers an increased depth of understanding about the novel.  

We meet every third Thursday from September through May with the exception of December when holidays and celebrations prevail. The meetings are taking place in the Panera Bread located in Shadyside (5430 Centre Avenue) from 1.00 PM to 3.00 PM.

If you love to read; if you love to discuss novels; if you are a native English speaker or have strong English skills; if you are an IWAP member - well, you've just GOT to join the IWAP Book Club!

We enthusiastically look forward to enrolling new members. You can join anytime (as long as the group is not full yet)!

September 2022 Book

September 29:
Elizabeth will host the book club this month on Thurs. Sept 29, so keep an eye on your email for details about the book title, library and digital holdings, and lots of supplemental materials to review and think about in preparation for the discussion!
 

 

October 2022 Book

October 20:
Elizabeth will guide a book discussion on Oct. 20th beginning at 10:00am, with refreshments at 9:30am. The group will discuss The Return - Fathers, Sons, and the Land in Between by Hisham Matar. An enthusiastic group of readers enjoyed a wonderful time in September, so grab a copy of this book at the Carnegie Libraryand join in October's book club.

November 2022 Book

November 17:
November book club meets on Nov. 17th beginning at 10:00am, with refreshments at 9:30am, to discuss Wide Saragasso Sea by Jean Rhys. Elizabeth has already sent a lot of supplemental resources via email and tells us this month will be an island treat as we taste a bit of the Caribbean in the reading of this celebrated novel. Pick up a copy of the book at the Carnegie Library.
